So as many of you might know, I have been a Developer or around Computers since a very young age. (around 14 years old)
I don’t think there isn’t something I haven’t done, from coding in lots of languages, created databases, hosted game servers, edited game scripts for my needs… I’ve done it all.
So I have created this blog and my social media presence to share my knowledge and educate others.
So I get asked a lot “How do I get so good”, “How do I xyz” so in this quick blog I will share my personal experience how I became so excellent in this realm
Choose Your Expertise
So choosing your path in IT is important, yes I know so many things and I have done so many things, but they are all related to each other.
Coding in games? programming… websites? still programming and coding, I haven’t really left my area of expertise.
However, ask me for web design? I’m probably the last person that you want to ask about Web Design, colours, how a website should look like or anything else creativity related
Also choosing an area of expertise gives you a stronger skills in that one area, which means you will become an expert in that field, you can always learn new skills.
How To Choose your area
To choose you area, think about what you are planning to do with IT skills:
- Are you looking for a job? Choose something in High-Demand
- Are you looking just to have fun? Choose Game Development or Python
- Maybe you like looking for a needle in a haystack or puzzles? Then Hacking could be for You
- There are 100’s of fields, choose one that interests you
Note: If you are SERIOUS about getting in IT, then think about the future and ask yourself “Can I see myself doing this for the next 10 years?“ If the answer is = NO… then choose another field.
How To Get Started in an xyz field
Which ever field you chose, then you will most likely find correct information to speed up your learning on my website (williambenz.com & My GitBook)
Start with fundamentals, this is where a lot of Cybersecurity beginners try to skip fundamentals without understanding anything and get straight into “H4CK1NG”
This is an amateur way of doing things (which is okay, everyone started somewhere) and you should be better with learning fundamentals first
Example of learning a field
Let’s say that I really want to learn Python but I have no idea how.
This is where Google comes in and you can literally ask it anything, don’t be scared and afraid, use it like you’re talking to a friend.
There are websites that will literally teach you for FREE, yes for FREE! (Including my website, you read so far and you haven’t paid for anything)
So what’s stopping you? Definitely not money…
Just keep learning, learn the basics and fundamentals and it’s important to be consistent.
Practice, Practice and Practice
Practice is what will excel you learning, make sure to stay as consistent as possible (you don’t need to learn 18 hours a day)
After couple years you will start to understand the whole spectrum of a field or subject and this is where you become an expert
I hope you learned something, if you have any questions, then my Twitter is waiting for You :)!
